Finance Punk’s Q2 and Q3 Earnings for 2017

2017 is still going strong with investments, credit card and bank bonuses.

From the $20k I started with in my WealthFront account [see “Investing Half My Annual Salary” post], I was at $21,205 first quarter. I was at $22,800 Q2 which means Finance Punk made another $1.6k in 3 months. I am currently at 23,360 making it $560 for Q3. It has been a great year for investing with gains of 14% so far. Let’s hope it continues.

I took a break from credit cards Q2 because I was focused on bank accounts and rewards spend but I did get the following referral bonuses:

20k UR

20K Delta

40K Hilton

Q3 Cards:

U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve – 40K Points and $325 travel credit

Wells Fargo World Propel – 40K Points and $100 airline credit

Marriott Business Card – 80K Marriott Points

Merrill+ Visa Card – 50K points

Q2 bank accounts:

BMO Harris – $200 x 2

U.S. Bank – $200 x 2

M&T Bank – $150 x 8

Q3 bank accounts:

Bank of America Checking – $100

Schwab – $100

Total: $2,200

I withdrew just around $80,000 from my business and personal bank accounts these 2 quarters.

Total spend: $13k/month

~$11K a month on cash equivalents and ~$2k/month on actual expenses.

I had a few spend bonuses on cards this quarter 2:

  • 5K TY points for $500 on grocery spend with Citi ThankYou Preferred card
  • $200 on Citi Prestige retention offer
  • 20k MR for adding authorized users onto Platinum card

With the above bonuses and 10x restaurants on Blue for Business I ended up getting just over 6 points per dollar for a total of ~500K points

Total cash value: ~$5,000 (My gift card fees were cancelled out by topcashback)

Total Quarter 2 Earnings:

$1.6K capital gains, 335K Points, $2k bank bonuses and $500 amex offers and topcashback.

Lets call it $8k

Total Quarter 3 Earnings:

$600 capital gains, 500k points, $200 bank bonuses and $1,000 amex offers and topcashback.

Around $7k

Total Earnings YTD – ~$25,000
